Copia Wealth Platform

Senior Product Designer • UX/UI • Web & iOS • 2022 – 2026

As a Senior Product Designer at startup Copia Wealth Studios, I helped design a wealth management platform serving family offices, advisors, and investors. Managing alternative investments is messy. Unlike public market investments, alternative portfolios can span private companies, real estate, funds, multiple owners, institutions, and years of documents. Copia 's goal was to make these complex portfolios easier to organize, understand, and manage.

Working alongside a product owner & engineering team I was involved from early ideas through shipped product. From early platform information architecture, to establishing a design system, and expanding both iOS and web experiences at the same time, the platform evolved from early-stage growth into a mature ecosystem.

Bringing Clarity to Portfolio Data Through Lenses

A core part of the platform was Lenses, designed around focused portfolio views and insights, rather than a single dashboard. I contributed to Lenses covering performance, allocations, capital calls, K-1 tracking, liabilities, custom reporting, and entity ownership structures. A key challenge was helping family offices connect these views into a more complete understanding of their portfolio

These experiences helped users explore portfolio data from different perspectives and better understand performance and investment composition. As the Lens ecosystem grew, we also designed ways to preview upcoming lenses, communicate product direction, and build anticipation around new capabilities coming to the platform.

Designing for Complex Wealth Structures

Wealth owners often needed to view the same portfolio through different ownership structures, filtering by entity across accounts, managers, and holdings.

My work focused on helping users move through these complex structures on the entities map, making it easier to understand how investments connected, rolled up, and related across their family office. Onboarding often began here, helping users create relationships and accounts that formed the backbone of the platform. A challenge was helping users confidently build these complex structures early in the process. I contributed to onboarding solutions, recorded and scripted demo videos, and created knowledge base content designed to make Copia more self-serve.

Creating a More Unified Cross-Platform Experience

I contributed across web and iOS design systems, helping translate desktop workflows into mobile experiences that emphasized different user needs. I managed parallel design systems, simplifying component libraries for faster implementation. Keeping pace with iOS updates and native patterns was critical to helping ensure the app was reliable across platform releases.

Supporting an Evolving Product

As Copia matured, the product focus evolved alongside changing client needs. Clients wanted broader portal support for document syncing and more AI-driven portfolio insights through features like Daily Digest. User tiers, pricing, packaging, and messaging evolved alongside the platform., and required close collaboration between product, marketing and engineering to meet tight deadlines.

During periods as the sole designer, keeping pace with a speedy development team required evolving how I worked, adopting new tools, and navigating the realities of designing with AI. It was a period when much of the industry was still learning which processes worked, how to debug AI behaviour, and how teams could work more efficiently. My role expanded into making documentation, design artifacts, and feedback more usable for agents and AI workflows.

My work helped shape a wealth platform managing tens of billions in assets under intelligence. Working within a small team, often as the sole designer, meant carrying ownership across product thinking and day-to-day delivery. The startup experience expanded my perspective beyond design alone, giving me deeper exposure to product strategy, customer needs, and delivering business value.
